The name Temenos is taken from the Greek word meaning, "Sacred Space." It was often used when speaking of a space set aside, a sanctuary, or a "safe place." Carl Jung used this same word to refer to the inner space deep within us where soul-making takes place. My desire is to provide a place that is set aside and safe as people journey into the deep places of their hearts and to companion with them into these sacred spaces. I consider it an honor and privilege to get to bear witness as people step into their stories and discover their belovedness.

After completing my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Florida Southern College, with a minor in Religion, I went on to complete my Master of Arts in both Islamic Studies and Marriage and Family Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Studies. Since then, I have worked in both a private practice setting, as well as a group practice setting, which included outpatient, inpatient, and intensive outpatient services. While I’ve been working with survivors of trauma for most of my career, the past ten years have been focused primarily on working with active duty and retired service members and their families, survivors of abuse, teens in the foster care system, and missionaries and NGO workers who’ve experienced difficult things overseas. I’ve had the opportunity to lead a variety of groups, including: a PTSD Support and Skills Group, a PTSD Spouse's Support Group, Support Systems, Sleep, Life Balance, Survivors of Abuse, and a Women's Empowerment Group. In addition to working with people who’ve experienced trauma, I also do marriage, pre-marriage, and family counseling, as well as spiritual direction.
Outside of the office, I like to spend time volunteering and participating in community activities. I’ve been a part of the Medical Reserve Corps of El Paso County, the Human Trafficking Task Force of Southern Colorado, volunteered with SBTC Disaster Relief and Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center, served as a personal and family coach for intensives with LEAD (a leadership development program at Dallas Theological Seminary), and participated in the interviewing, selection, placing, training, and debriefing of college missionaries with several sending agencies. My late husband and I worked with victims of sexual exploitation in India and Thailand and also were part of teams doing relief and development work in Iraq and Indonesia. I’ve been a part of teams doing relief and community work in Jamaica, Australia, Yemen, and China- and have worked closely with refugees in Israel and Greece, as well as here in the US, having volunteered with Catholic Charities, Lutheran Family Services, and World Relief. I enjoy doing member care for workers overseas and have worked with teams in North Africa and Central Asia, as well as provided support for those returning from difficult experiences overseas. In the US, I’ve served as a volunteer to provide counseling with those impacted by Hurricane Katrina, the Waldo Canyon Fire, and local shootings.
In addition to counseling, I’ve gotten to help with cross cultural trainings for overseas workers and graduate level counseling students, and trainings on trauma for spiritual directors, NGOs, community helpers and pastoral leaders. In addition to counseling, I’ve gotten to help with cross cultural trainings for overseas workers and graduate level counseling students, and trainings on trauma for spiritual directors, NGOs, community helpers and pastoral leaders. Before becoming a counselor, I was a crisis counselor for a crisis line and rape crisis center, a youth director and mentor at churches in GA and FL, and an outdoor education facilitator and teacher with an outdoor education and community leadership development program. Currently, I enjoy time parenting my daughter, hiking, climbing, travelling, and spending time with friends.

Spiritual direction most simply put is spiritual companioning. Its coming alongside a person in their spiritual journey, as they learn to see and hear God in their stories and lives. Spiritual direction is not therapy. It is not about telling people what to believe or how to act, rather it is helping the person awaken to the mystery of God in all of life.
A book of hope and understanding for every moment of wondering, Will I ever truly feel alive again?
When Tammy Hagins's husband died in a tragic accident at the age of 46, Tammy found herself on an unexpected and unwanted journey of grief. As she held her five-year-old daughter through long nights, navigated the endless paperwork surrounding Kevin's death, and learned the joys and challenges of receiving help from others, Tammy thought over and over, This is not the way life was supposed to go.
Out Alive is the heart-wrenching, hope-filled story of Tammy's first year as a young widow. Writing for anyone experiencing shattered dreams, Tammy draws on her background as a counselor as well as her personal story to come alongside us in our own experiences of loss. Brutally honest about anger and fears, haunting regrets, and midnight wrestlings with God, Out Alive is a tribute to what it looks like to climb tenderly back to new life. As Tammy writes, despite all the unanswered questions, she holds a heart that is "alive and intact, possibly even more alive than it had been before my husband's death."
If you are wondering how your life became something so different than what you had planned, find encouragement and companionship in Tammy's words as you embrace the beauty and the struggle of living with a heart alive.
